Preparing for Summer Camp: Checking Things Off the To-Do List

Preparing for Summer Camp: Checking Things Off the To-Do List- Camp Ondessonk summer camp forms checklist

Before warm weather fills our calendars with practices and all the fun summer can bring, I’m checking a big item off our pre-Summer Camp to-do list by completing all the required forms early. It may not be the most glamorous part of preparing for Camp, but it’s one of the most important.

First on my list each year is the Camper Medical Questionnaire. Making sure medical history, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts are up to date gives me peace of mind knowing my kids will be well cared for while they’re away. Camp’s Health Center team depends on this information, and taking the time to fill it out carefully is one small way I can help keep my campers safe. Providing complete information in this questionnaire helps staff get to know my kids before they even arrive.

Next comes the Camper Profile Sheet, which is one of my favorite forms to complete. This is where I select their unit shirt size, provide some family background, and get to share a little about each child, their interests, personality, and any concerns I might have. I love knowing that their counselors will already have insight into what makes them feel comfortable and confident. While less personal, but no less important, I need to review and sign the Summer Camp Waiver of Claim as well.

While I’m logged into our Camp account, I can also take care of a few fun details. I will make sure to list their preferred cabinmates and complete the Unit Preference Form so they can stay with friends in one of their favorite units and feel more at home right away.

I also love setting up their care packages ahead of time. It’s such a simple way to send a little love from home, and I know how much my kids look forward to that surprise during the week. At the same time, I add money to their Barter Bucks accounts so they can visit the Trading Post and pick out a souvenir or snack on their own.

Completing all these forms and extras early helps our whole family feel prepared. Instead of scrambling at the last minute, we can focus on the fun part during busy summer months: packing, counting down the days, and talking about what they’re most excited to experience.

For me, staying organized now means more peace of mind later. And when I finally wave goodbye at drop-off, I know I’ve done everything I can to help my three campers have a safe, happy, and unforgettable summer at Camp.
