Trails, Traditions, and Friendship
For Jess Peak, Camp Ondessonk has been a constant presence throughout her life as a camper, staff member, volunteer, and Loyal Lodge member.
Jess first came to Camp as a camper, spending four summers exploring units including Goupil, Lalande, Chabanel, Garnier, and Lakeside during Horse Camp. One of Jess’ favorite camper memories is her very first all-day hike. At the time, she had no idea where she was, but years later, she realized it was likely the Pakentuck route down Ozark Creek to Cinder Path. What stands out most? Loving the mud so much that she laid down and rolled in it, fully embracing the adventure.
Jess returned to Camp as a Summer Camp staff member in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2019, serving primarily in Horse Adventure and later in Adventure. One summer, she even spent each week filling a different role, something she loved for the variety and challenge it brought. She was also part of the early development of the Challenge Activity Area, helping shape experiences that continue to impact campers today.
Her favorite staff memories include laughing around campfires, unforgettable moments with horses, Saturday nights at Camp, and meaningful experiences during the Outdoor Education season, where she served in 2016-2017 and 2020. From amazing hikes to friendships that have lasted a lifetime, Jess says she still thinks about her Camp friends often.

As a volunteer, Jess has continued to stay connected through service outside of Summer Camp. One of her favorite parts of volunteering is seeing Camp in different seasons, each revealing a new kind of beauty.
Jess is also a proud member of The Loyal Lodge of Ondessonk & Tekakwitha. She fondly remembers the excitement and mystery of her induction, especially hearing her name called by the Four Winds. One of her most meaningful moments was wearing her Lodge sash for the first time and standing on the grotto stage to receive it, a memory she treasures to this day.
From muddy hikes and horse adventures to leadership, service, and lifelong friendships, Jess’s journey reflects the enduring Spirit of Camp Ondessonk. We are grateful she shared her memories and photos, and proud to celebrate her as a valued member of our Camp Family.
