We remember those whom we have lost throughout this past year of 2025. They were members of our Ondessonk Family as well as members of the Lodge of Ondessonk & Tekakwitha. Their lives made a distinct impact on the campers of Ondessonk and on all of us.

Shayla Marie Campbell

April 25, 2003 – March 7, 2025

Lodge Member, Camper, Staff, Donor

Shayla Campbell was born in Panama City Beach, Fla., and passed away March 7, 2025, at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis, Mo., with her family by her side.

Her truest passions were human and animal rights, many times dreaming of a future in politics, and Camp Ondessonk (specifically the barn) where they felt the most at home, accepted, and free. She treasured time at Ondessonk and was inducted into the Lodge of Ondessonk & Tekakwitha in 2015.

Shayla was beyond talented. They could always be found artistically expressing herself through sketching, loud creative makeup, quirky fashion, and singing. Shayla was a beautiful balance of reserved and sweet while also being vibrant and outspoken. They were cautious yet fearless, beyond spunky, and unapologetically herself. They understood that to love was to accept others for who they are, no matter their differences.

Though Shayla spent many years struggling with both mental and physical pain, they never lost ability or passion to be strong for others. Her strength was unwavering and enviable. Twenty-one years were not nearly enough, not just for those who cared for her but for a young woman who was finally excited for what the future held.

In 2016, Anna embraced the opportunity to make a new home in Maine. Her greatest adventure and love, her son Michael, was born in 2019. She loved walking the beach with Michael, going on hikes, and seeing the local flora and fauna, especially her favorite flower, the tiger lily.
