Camp Ondessonk Event: “2nd Annual Halloween Fun Run”
Camp Ondessonk, an Illinois Not for Profit 501(c)(3) Youth Camp located in Ozark, Illinois, will be hosting the 2nd Annual Moccasin Gap 10 Mile Trail Race & Heepwah 5K Halloween Fun Run Saturday October 20th, 2012 at 10:00am. A portion of the proceeds to benefit the Camp Ondessonk Campership Fund. The fund provides families with financial hardship an opportunity to receive assistance for all or part of their child’s summer camp tuition.
The Moccasin Gap Trail Run will utilize a series of scenic and challenging trails within and surrounding Camp Ondessonk in the Shawnee National Forest. This rugged 10-mile route will take runners past some of the outdoor highlights of Camp Ondessonk, such as Cedar Falls (the highest free-falling waterfall in the state) and past one of the 11 known Native American Stone Fort sites in Southern Illinois.
The Heepwah 5K Halloween Fun Run will take advantage of a few scenic trails and the gravel roads around Camp Ondessonk’s Lake Echon. It will travel up a section of single track trail shared with the Moccasin Gap Trail Run before turning toward the finish line. The run offers a rewarding challenge for runners or walkers of any skill level!
An award ceremony and costume contest with great prizes will follow the race at 1:00pm honoring the following participants:
15 and under top male and female finishers
16-29 top female and male finishers
30-39 top male and female finishers
40-49 top female and male finishers
50 and above top male and female finishers

The cost is $50.00 per person for the Moccasin Gap 10 Mile Race, and $35.00 per person for the Heepwah 5K Halloween Fun Run. All partipants are invited to attend the Free Fall Festival immediately after the race. The Free Fall Festival is a family friendly event and will feature face painting, pony rides, climbing wall and hay rides.
