Camp Ondessonk Health Center Information
It’s nearly time for your camper to spend the week at Camp Ondessonk! Our Health Center staff are excited to meet your child and help them have an amazing week while staying safe and healthy at Camp. Part of Sunday check-in is a medication check. Included here is some information and tips to make the medication check-in run as quickly and smoothly as possible.
1. Our office staff prints off the medication check-in papers in the middle of the week before your camper’s arrival. If you add medications after Wednesday, the week before arrival, you will likely have to fill in the medication check-in form by hand.
2. Please complete your camper’s OTC (over-the-counter) medication permissions on Campwise before arrival! This allows us to treat your camper’s minor ailments and injuries much more quickly.
3. All medications must be checked in, even over-the-counter medicines, medicines that are only taken on an as-needed basis, and ointments. This includes Tylenol, ibuprofen, Benadryl, melatonin, antibiotic ointment, and hydrocortisone cream. If you aren’t sure if something needs to be checked in, you can call us at 618-695-2489 before check-in or ask when you arrive!
4. Please consider leaving over-the-counter medications at home. Our Health Center is well stocked with medications that treat nearly any minor ailment or injury that occurs at Camp. If you are concerned that we won’t carry an over-the-counter medication your camper may need, please call and ask.
5. We CAN NOT accept medications that are not in their original packaging or any loose pills. Please label pill bottles clearly with your camper’s name.
6. If you intend to send only the number of pills your camper will need while at camp, please consider sending an extra 1-2 doses. Campers are notorious for dropping pills on the ground!
7. If your camper is bringing an emergency medication such as a rescue inhaler or epi-pen, please send 2 if you have them. At medication check-in, one of our staff will verify the medications and return one to you to give to your camper’s unit leader. The unit leader carries a fanny pack with all emergency medications that will always be with your camper. The other will stay with the Health Center staff.
