The Red Carpet Gala

The Red Carpet Gala has come to exemplify prestige, decadence, and the recognition of influential individuals. This was certainly true at Camp Ondessonk’s Red Carpet Gala 2017 held at the Four Points by Sheraton in Fairview Heights, IL. This was truly a gathering of some of the most important people both in Camp Ondessonk’s rich history, and in its promising future.

The evening began with a reception honoring Camp Ondessonk’s Builders and Founders. These are individuals that consistently support Camp, either with significant monetary donations, or through many hours of volunteerism. This group also got a sneak peek at the more than 180 silent auction items on display, the 24 exciting live auction items, and the 12 Cabin Fever items.

Many people say coming to Camp Ondessonk is like coming home. In that respect, the 2017 Gala could be thought of as a family reunion of sorts. There was ample opportunity for the assortment of guests, which included current and former board members, staff members, volunteers, former campers, parents of campers, and lodge members, to catch up and reminisce about Camp. In between the socializing, Executive Director Dan King gave a short presentation recognizing some key individuals. Dan asked many different groups of people to stand and be recognized. Among these groups were the sponsors of the evening’s event. These individuals either donated money to offset the costs of the event or sponsored tables. The success of the event can largely be attributed to their contributions. King also took some time to recognize Lucia Hodges for her more than 30 years of exemplary service to the children of Camp Ondessonk. Hodges has held many positions at Camp but now devotes her talents to the organization as the Volunteer Coordinator. King also presented two deserving individuals with awards recognizing the services they have provided to Camp Ondessonk. Carol Klinger was presented with the St. John De-Brebeuf Award, and Tip Belz was presented with the St. Rene Goupil Award.

The event was a resounding success, and brought in over $130,000 in gross revenue. This will benefit Ondessonk campers for years to come. Thank you to everyone that helped to make this event such a success!
