Turn Your IRA Distribution Into an Ondessonk Opportunity

Turn Your IRA Distribution Into an Ondessonk Opportunity

Turn Your IRA Distribution Into an Ondessonk Opportunity

If you are 70½ or older and have an individual retirement account (IRA), you may be able to support Camp Ondessonk through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This giving strategy allows eligible individuals to transfer funds directly from an IRA to a qualifying charitable organization, creating an opportunity to turn retirement savings into meaningful support for future campers.

A QCD can offer several important benefits. The distribution is generally excluded from your federal taxable income, and if you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), your qualifying gift can count toward that requirement. Unlike a charitable contribution made with money you have already withdrawn, a QCD does not require you to include the qualifying amount in income and then claim a charitable deduction for the same gift.

For 2026, the annual QCD exclusion limit is $111,000 per eligible individual, subject to IRS rules. You do not have to itemize deductions to benefit from a QCD, and you can make a gift even if you are not yet required to take RMDs. The funds must be transferred directly from an eligible IRA to the charity; receiving the distribution yourself before donating it generally disqualifies it from QCD treatment.

Imagine turning part of your annual IRA distribution into an opportunity for a child to attend Camp, support for the horses and equestrian program, or resources to care for the trails and natural spaces that make Ondessonk special. A QCD can be a practical way to connect your financial planning with the mission you care about.

Contact your IRA administrator to ask about making a QCD to Camp Ondessonk. Please consult your financial or tax advisor to confirm your eligibility and the tax treatment of your gift.
