By Judy Blase Woodruff
Coming from Cobden, Ill., Abby Bremleve currently lives near Buncombe, Ill. She attended school at Cobden from K – 12 and then went on to Shawnee Community College, Murray State, and finally Southern Illinois University Carbondale. While never an official camper or staff member, Abby enjoyed a weekend trip to Ondessonk with her church’s confirmation class around 2007. She recently learned about the part-time Assistant Food Service Director’s position and began at Camp August 18th.
She grew up on her family’s farm in Cobden and worked on the farm her entire life. In addition to working with produce, Abby also raised goats, rabbits, and a variety of other animals. She has three older brothers, three nephews, and one niece that she adores and can’t wait to introduce to Camp. She says, “I love Southern Illinois and feel very lucky to call it home. It’s a magical place!”
What Abby likes best about Ondessonk is being out in nature. She looks forward to familiarizing herself with the vast terrain around Camp. In her new position, she says, “I get to feed people and meet so many new people as well. The opportunity to educate people about food is exciting.” She is beginning to find her place among the team. “Labor Day Weekend was a lot of fun and a great intro to working at Ondessonk,” she exclaimed. “I met so many lovely people and got a feel of what the community is like here.”
In addition to her employment at Ondessonk, Abby also works as a manager and coach at Extreme Kids in Marion, and has coached cheerleading at Cobden for eight years. With a love for animals, she has a dog and four cats. She also enjoys watching movies.
Welcome to the team, Abby!
