Once a Rag Rat, Always Camp Family
Kate (Burgauer) Albrecht’s Camp journey began as a fourth grader in the unit of Raganeau (“Rag Rats Rule!”), continued through years as a camper, Horse Adventure camper, and CIT, and eventually led her to staff roles throughout high school and college. After graduating, Kate returned once more to serve on the Outdoor Education staff and later as Equestrian Director, deepening her connection to the place she proudly calls her second home.
Kate’s memories of Camp are filled with moments of peace and purpose. As Equestrian Director, she cherished walking the lake at night by moonlight, listening to the sounds of the forest and the laughter from treehouse cabins. “I loved hearing all the night sounds, but I also enjoyed hearing the hushed singing, chatting, or laughing coming from the cabins while young people were experiencing the adventure of sleeping in a treehouse.”
Her family shares her love for Camp. “Both my daughter and husband inspire me to stay involved with Camp,” she says. “They know that my favorite place is 3760 Ondessonk Road.”
Today, Kate remains deeply involved with Camp Ondessonk through volunteering and giving back. “My favorite time of year is Camp O Week when I get to shop for specific things that Camp and the program areas need,” she shares. That spirit of service and support reflect the same values that inspired her to become a Lifetime Lodge Member. “When I was inducted into the Lodge of Tekakwitha, my blue sash was a symbol of leadership and service that I was proud of. I became a Lifetime member because those values are important to me, and I want to see Lodge continue to inspire more generations.”

Kate believes Camp Ondessonk’s mission is vital in today’s world, “Camp’s most important work is preserving space to be yourself and grow through outdoor adventures. There is no better way to make our world a place of joy, leadership, and adventure than to help send a kid to Summer Camp.”
