Megan Carr Folsom’s connection to Camp Ondessonk
Megan (Carr) Folsom’s connection to Camp Ondessonk began when she was nine years old when she first enjoyed a week of Summer Camp. She spent summers as a camper until she was 14, and served as a Unit Leader and Dining Hall Manager in 1998. Those years gave her many treasured memories like the thrill of learning to shoot a rifle for the first time.
Now living in Kansas, Megan is thankful she stayed connected to Camp with friends online, and updated with Camp news through the newsletter. Becoming a Lifetime Lodge member was an easy decision that furthered her long-distance connection with the place she loves. Megan laughed, “I wanted to help fund the Lodge and keep from forgetting yearly dues!”
Megan loves seeing how much joy Camp continues to bring to new generations of campers. “I believe Camp Ondessonk’s most important work is exposing kids to skills they might not otherwise experience, and spreading the gospel with life as a kid,” she explained.
She reflected on the importance of Camp Ondessonk, stating, “Campers and staff will create memories that last a lifetime, meet new people, and broaden their horizons. Most importantly, kids can disconnect from the digital world and learn more about the outdoors and people who came before us.”
Today, Megan has a busy life. She is married, raising three boys, and working as an anesthesiologist, but the lessons she learned at Camp Ondessonk have stayed with her every day. No matter where life takes her, Camp Ondessonk and The Loyal Lodge of Ondessonk & Tekakwitha will always be a part of who she is.
