A Celebration 65 Years in the Making!
On Friday, June 28, the Camp Community came together to commemorate the 65th Summer at Camp Ondessonk with its 4th Annual Camp O Day celebration.
Camp Friends continued the tradition of giving gifts of time, talent, and treasure to keep Camp Ondessonk’s promise to teach what matters most. For the fourth year, the support was overwhelming with a total of $24,066 contributed by 137 Camp Friends, more than 100 items totaling more than $2,800 were purchased for activity areas, and 570 volunteer hours were pledged by Camp Friends to support Camp’s mission throughout the coming year.
Contributing to the day’s success were two challenge gifts, the first by Stephen and Mary Mahieu and the second by Jacquie Jablonski and Karl Undesser, along with a friendly competition encouraging everyone to show their Ondessonk pride by giving in support of their favorite Unit.
Campers kicked off a day of fun with a breakfast birthday party for Camp O. They sang “Happy Birthday” and enjoyed sweet treats before starting their action-packed day.
After completing the Tug-of-War and Marathon, the party continued at the Trading Post with party games and decorations.
Camp O Day commemorates the founding of Camp Ondessonk, and is held annually on June 28, the first day of Summer Camp in 1959. Camp O Day honors the thousands of children who have entered the Camp Gate to enjoy a week of Summer Camp, and celebrates the tradition of supporting the mission of Camp Ondessonk for 65 years.
