Other Ways to Give:

Matching Gift

Many companies participate in a matching gift program that can increase the value of your gift. Some will also match charitable contributions given by retirees and spouses. Check here to see if your company participates in this program. If so, ask your employer how to apply for this benefit.

Third-Party Event

This type of fundraising event is hosted by an individual, business, organization, school or community group to benefit Camp Ondessonk.  It is planned and executed independently from Camp and can be as easy as a car wash or bake sale, or as extensive as a golf tournament or trivia night.  Proceeds from the event are then given to Camp to use where needed most. If you would like to help Camp sustain and enhance programs, and involve family, friends, school or church to help raise money for Camp, click here for more details of how you can be an important contributor through a third-party event.

Donate Your Time

There are other ways to give to Camp Ondessonk in addition to financial gifts. The knowledge and connections that our friends and donors hold, offers an important resource to Camp. By donating your time to be a summer camp or project volunteer, or a Camp ambassador, you can make a lasting impact on Camp’s mission and every day needs.  Click here to learn more.

Support Scholarship

At summer camp, when children make new friends, explore the world around them, and learn that “I can” is much more powerful than “I can’t”, magic happens. In an environment created just for them, children learn real-life skills, develop self-esteem, and gain a sense of independence and community. Whether children are playing, exploring nature, conquering new heights, or becoming part of a camp family, they are creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Non-Cash Gift

Non-Cash gifts can include items such as appreciate assets (stocks, bonds, or mutual funds), real estate, personal property, and other items that may be used to support Camp Ondessonk’s mission.  These types of gifts require additional paperwork, review and approvals.*  Therefore, please contact your financial advisor as well as Dan King, Executive Director of Camp Ondessonk, at [email protected] or 618-695-2489, when considering these types of gifts.

*PLEASE NOTE: The Internal Revenue Service treats non-cash contributions differently than gifts of cash. Non-cash contributions of $500 or more are reported on the IRS form 8283. In addition, non-cash contributions may require more documentation, especially if the value of all “like” non-cash contributions given in a year to any charitable organizations exceeds $5,000 ($10,000 for gifts of stock). For non-cash contributions at this level, the IRS requires the donors to include qualified, written appraisals with their tax returns. Copies of an appraisal or receipt help Camp Ondessonk determine the value of the non-cash contribution and may be included in a donor’s giving record at Camp Ondessonk.

Planned Gift & Le Coeur Society Membership

You can provide financial support to Camp Ondessonk during your lifetime and even beyond through thoughtful estate planning.  Many planned gifts are arranged in a will or trust that go into effect after one’s death.  There are flexible and convenient ways that will help you maximize your charitable gifts.  Planned gifts come in many forms:

  • Bequests
  • Life income gifts
  • Life insurance
  • Charitable gift annuities
  • Charitable IRA rollovers
  • Other options

These planned gifts may be created through gifts that include cash, securities, real estate, and/or other items. Planned gifts may be unrestricted or restricted, and may provide benefits to the donor, the donor’s family, and to Camp Ondessonk. By naming Camp Ondessonk in your estate plans, you become a member of the Le Coeur Society.

Bequests are usually revocable, simple to implement and easy to change. The bequest provision in your will or living trust should specify an amount or percentage of your estate to be transferred to Camp Ondessonk as beneficiary. You may designate your bequest as unrestricted or restrict it to scholarship, capital project, or a specific program. Please refer to this sample letter as needed.

Life income gifts offer benefits to the individual and to Camp Ondessonk by providing current income to the donor and future funding for a designated project at Camp. Life income gifts include charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts and others.

Life insurance may be given as a paid-up policy or by designating Camp Ondessonk as a beneficiary of an existing policy.

Charitable IRA rollover Contact your IRA administrator to confirm if your administrator has a specific form required for a direct gift transfer. This sample letter also provides an example of how a transfer may be requested from your IRA custodian (financial institution) to Camp Ondessonk. Individuals should consult their tax advisor for the numerous benefits of this option.

While Camp Ondessonk does not provide legal or tax counsel, we will provide assistance to attorneys and tax advisors as they work with their clients.

In-Kind Gift

Items such as supplies, equipment, or program materials can be donated to Camp Ondessonk to help with everyday expenses.  These non-monetary gifts are another way you can make a direct impact at Camp.*  Contact Whitney Strang, Director of Development, at 618-695-2489 x114 or [email protected] for more information.
