Update – Pete Korte Lodge
By Judy Blase Woodruff
Volunteers! Camp Ondessonk would not be what it is today without our dedicated, talented, selfless volunteers! Throughout Camp’s 64-year history, volunteers have had a major role in designing and building practically every structure around Camp. Now, we have them to thank for helping build the Pete Korte Lodge – the new staff duplex.
After the extremely successful “wall raising” for the duplex January 14th, Ranger Mike Jennings once again gathered a group of talented volunteers to “raise the roof!” For the second time in a little over a month, volunteers gathered to work on the Pete Korte Lodge, placing trusses atop the walls and installing plywood sheathing.
When complete, the duplex will house up to eight full-time staff members, and as you can see from the pictures, the staff home is quickly taking shape. Without the help and determination of our wonderful volunteers, the cost to build the duplex would be prohibitive.
Because of a storm that came through Camp Sunday evening, the installment of the roofing underlayment was postponed until it could be installed on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week without fear of losing it to the wind. The metal roofing is on-site, and volunteer schedules are being checked for a time to place the final metal roofing material. Once the building is under roof, work on the interior can begin.
