CURRENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
The Equestrian Director is a full-time exempt position responsible for oversight and maintenance of the stables, year-round herd of approximately 70 horses, pastures and grounds, and all equestrian programming at Camp Ondessonk. Programming at Camp Ondessonk includes summer camp, Road Scholar (older adult educational programs), Horse Camp, overnight horsepacking adventure camps, and programs, and school-year outdoor education programs. The Equestrian Director supervises full time and seasonal staff and must maintain CHA and ACA accreditation standards while providing safe, high-quality programming. The Equestrian Director is an integral part of a strong camp community who must be prepared to contribute to multiple aspects of the camp program and operation throughout the year; this includes multiple night, weekend and holiday duties, general camp staff and camper supervision, development and recruitment events, and many requirements outside of the stables as well as daily feeding and horse care duties.
QUALIFICATIONS: 25+ years old with a Bachelors Degree, 3 years experience leading a youth equestrian program and experience with year-round care of a large horse herd. Candidates must have strong teaching, communication & interpersonal skills. Must have or be able to obtain certifications in First Aid/CPR/AED and CHA level 3 instructor certification (minimum). Previous experience with CHA and Summer Camps strongly preferred.
COMPENSATION: Salary $27,000-$29,000 based on experience. On-site housing and all utilities provided. On-site boarding options negotiable in many cases for kid-friendly horses. Fall Outdoor Education Program Staff
Camp Ondessonk has openings for 3 or 9 month Program Staff positions starting August 14 and lasting until November 13, 2017 (3-month assignment) or May 21, 2018 (9-month assignment). There is a 3-week unpaid break during December, 2017 for the 9-month assignment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 21+, camp &/or outdoor education experience, comfortable at heights, Bachelor’s degree in a related field a plus; integrity, maturity, patience, flexibility, self motivation, energy, sense of humor, passion for outdoors; strong group facilitation, communication, & interpersonal skills; First Aid/CPR/AED, WFR, Lifeguard or other certifications. COMPENSATION: $525-575 paid bi-weekly, meals provided during programs, shared on-site housing, pro-deals, access to thousands of acres of national forest.
