Girls Week
By: Jordyn Priebe
Girls Week is a very special week here at Camp Ondessonk because all of the units are filled entirely with girls. While learning is what matters most, young females are empowered through a positive environment surrounded entirely by girls. The girls are able to be themselves and further develop into the women they will become with the assistance of our world-class female staff. With all social expectations left behind, our female campers can have an amazing time in an atmosphere that allows them to feel safe and welcomed.
“The energy in the air is what makes Girls Week so different from any other week in the summer. There are so many more songs that are being sung, and laughing, and friendships being made. It is all connected into one, and I think part of that perfect storm is that it is all girl campers that come this week.”
Shannon Sonndermann, Specialty Program Coordinator
While singing and dancing throughout the week, these young ladies create new friendships, foster previous ones, and become more connected to nature and God. Campers have the opportunity to visit all of our activity areas including horseback riding, archery, challenge, hiking, handicrafts, swimming, boating, woodsmanship, riflery, and council. Along with our daytime activities, campers are provided with an immense amount of fun during our night-time programs. Whether it be the unit campfire, Tuesday night game, overnight, or the lodge ceremony, campers experience a wide variety of both exciting and enlightening experiences every evening at Camp Ondessonk. On Friday, campers participate in a camp-wide battle of tug-of-war and marathon, a race around camp. To end the week, everyone gathers in the grotto for a closing campfire which includes all of the units performing a skit. Girls Week is the perfect collaboration of amazing staff and exciting girl campers.
