Father-Son Weekend-Generations of Fun

Father-Son Weekend-Generations of Fun

By Lisa Bloodworth, Director of Finance

Camp Ondessonk was proud to host several generations of fathers and sons during the 2022 Father-Son Specialty Weekend.  There were more than 100 participants who engaged in various camp activities.

Father-Son Weekend is about bonding and being together outside of everyday schedules.  Many groups who started coming as father and son are now coming as multi-generational groups.  One participant said, “We began when my son was ten years old, and now I am coming to spend the weekend with my son and six-year-old grandson.”

On Saturday, the participants began their day by being the first specialty group to eat at the dining hall since 2020.  After breakfast, they enjoyed the wonders of nature through hiking the Shawnee, kayaking, archery, climbing wall, handicrafts, and woods craft.  The most popular activity among the younger participants was playing at the gaga pit every chance they got, hoping to become the winner.  The night wound down after the all-day activities with dinner, Mass in the chapel, and a campfire in the Grotto.

Sunday is a day of activities in the morning, with many running toward the gaga pit to play before final departure.  The participants left having had a wonderful time and with many talking about their next trip to Camp Ondessonk.
