A Spark of Generosity: Tom Young Lights Up Camp Ondessonk’s Fourth of July

Each summer, the night sky above Camp Ondessonk is filled with excitement, not just from the joy of campers, but from a special fireworks display that marks Independence Day. Behind the sparkle is a generous and long-time supporter of Camp, Tom Young, Sr., whose annual fireworks donation brings light, laughter, and lasting memories to Week 5 campers.

For years, Tom has ensured that campers experience an extra-special Fourth of July celebration during their week in the woods. His thoughtful in-kind gift allows Camp Ondessonk to host a professional-grade fireworks display that has become a true highlight of the summer session.

“It’s my favorite thing to do!” Tom smiles. After watching the annual display coordinated by long-time Ranger, Mike Jennings, for several summers, Tom eagerly volunteered to take it off the Maintenance Team’s plate. He completed the approval process with Johnson County to manage the display and has never looked back.

Tom’s support exemplifies the spirit of giving that keeps Camp’s traditions alive and thriving. His kindness is a powerful reminder that one person’s generosity can light up the sky and the hearts of hundreds of young campers.
