Holland Construction Gives Students from Wyvetter Younge School of Excellence the Ondessonk Experience
In April, Camp Ondessonk welcomed students from Wyvetter Younge School of Excellence for a memorable overnight outdoor education experience made possible through the generous support of Holland Construction.
The group included 13 students in the 7th and 8th grade, along with three chaperones, many of whom were experiencing Camp Ondessonk for the very first time. During their one-night, two-day stay, students immersed themselves in outdoor adventure, teamwork, and hands-on learning.
The visit began with group games designed to break the ice and build connections before students headed out on a Discovery Hike, where they explored the beauty of Camp while learning basic survival skills. In the evening, the group gathered around the campfire to enjoy one of Camp Ondessonk’s classic traditions, foil dinners cooked over an open fire.
The next day’s activities continued the adventure as students tested their focus and coordination in Archery, explored Camp on another hike, and challenged themselves on the Climbing Wall. Their experience concluded in the afternoon with an exciting survival challenge, giving students the opportunity to apply the skills they learned throughout their visit and celebrate all they accomplished during their time at Camp.
Experiences like this are more than just a field trip; they provide young people with opportunities to build confidence, strengthen friendships, develop problem-solving skills, and connect with the outdoors in meaningful ways.
