Two Illinois Schools Receive State Grants to Attend Ondessonk Programming
Students from St. Joseph School in Olney, Ill., and St. John Neumann in Maryville, Ill., will visit Camp Ondessonk thanks to funding through the Illinois Biodiversity Field Trip Grant Program. The grant program is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF).
The grant funding makes it possible for these two schools to enjoy Camp activities like Archery, Boating, and Low and High Challenge Courses as well as hikes where they will learn about nature and caring for our world.
In total, the IDNR grants awarded more than $99,600 to 107 schools in 30 Illinois counties benefiting almost 7,000 students. Grants were made possible by private donations from the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Foundation of Skokie, and the D.F. and M.T. Grohne Family Foundation of Wilmington.
The grant program allows Illinois teachers to apply for funds, with the annual application deadline of January 31, 2025. The application can be found online at dnr.illinois.gov/education/grants/grantsibftg.
