The Vision of Camp Ondessonk, a camp founded on the Catholic Faith, is to be the world’s best youth camp. Inspired by positive role models, campers will experience the wonders of God’s creation through adventurous, challenging activities in a unique, rustic environment.

Working in small groups with two or three highly trained staff members, campers focus on one set of skills for an entire week.  This creates an opportunity for remarkable knowledge and skill growth.  To help parents make good choices for their children, these programs are divided into two levels.

Like Traditional Campers, Adventure Campers are eligible for induction into Lodge, Ondessonk's honor society.

Level One Camps --

 
Horse Camp

Love horses? Love Camp O? Want both? Horse Camp is for you. Spend your days at the Ondessonk Stables learning how to care for and groom your horse, develop basic horsemanship and riding skills, and enjoy long rides through our pristine pasture lands and oak-hickory forested trails. Spend your evenings doing those Camp O activities you love, the nights cozy in your cabin. And yes, you can bring your horse on the overnight! 

 
Rock Camp

Ages: 12-15
Dates: Coed 1 June 6-12
Cost: $550/$500/$450 ($100 upon registration)

A great introduction experience, Rock Camp will take you from basic knots and safety systems to developing your climbing technique, while providing opportunities to experience our high ropes course and the several sandstone top-rope routes set at our very own Pakentuck area. Like the adventure side of life, but don’t want to miss all of your favorite Camp Ondessonk activities? You’ll spend your days on rocks, evenings in camp, and the nights in your cabin.

Horse Adventure

Since 1991, our long-standing Adventure Camp favorite! Join us in exploring the scenic backcountry trails of the surrounding Shawnee National Forest on horseback by day, sitting around the campfire eating delicious backcountry cuisine and camping out each night. You and your trail crew will learn basic horse care and riding technique at the Ondessonk Stables before departing on the adventure of a lifetime! Good friends, a good horse, and the dusty trail. What could be better this summer? 

 
Rock Adventure

Rock Adventure takes the skills from Rock Camp and puts them on the trail, moving quickly to hands-on practical work on the rock while experiencing some of the Southern Illinois Rock Climbing scene’s highlights. Enjoy active days honing and developing your skills on progressively challenging routes. Spend nights along the shore of one of Camp Ondessonk’s scenic lakes and at Jackson Falls Climbing area each evening to maximize your day’s climbing.

 
River to River Backpacking Adventure

Ages: 13-16
Dates: Coed 3-Family June 20-July 3
Cost: $850/$800/$750 ($100 upon registration)

Adventure BackpackingSpend a total of 12 days on-trail learning a progression of skills from expedition planning and preparation to backcountry travel and energy conservation techniques to group management skills. The route will follow a challenging section of the popular River to River trail, part of the larger American Discovery Trail, and highlights many of the stunning natural wonders distinctive of SouAdventure Backpackingthern Illinois. You will walk away with solid backcountry travel and ‘Leave No Trace skills necessary to pursue future wilderness expeditions.
