Work Continues Around Camp
The month of May has looked different this year, but work continues around Camp! Support Services Director, Dru Kee, along with the kitchen, program, and maintenance teams, have been hard at work updating Camp’s shower houses and revamping the summer camp menu.
Last week, 12 of Camp Ondessonk’s staff members joined forces and made some needed improvements to the shower houses on property. Improvements included painting the walls; replacing benches, baseboards, and interior doors; and adding storage cubbies for the staff. Staff members are also looking into high-quality shower curtains for additional privacy. Bonus: the majority of projects were able to be completed with supplies Camp already had in stock!
Though our summer camp menu is updated and upgraded every year, Dru has been able to devote more time and energy to this project. In addition to the camp classics, like pizza and corn dogs, the newest meal our summer campers will experience is honey glazed fried chicken tenders with cornbread and stewed carrots. YUM. Camp Ondessonk is also making the move to exclusively serve whole grain pasta, and all of our current healthy options, locally sourced items and Camp-grown fruits and vegetables will continue to be part of the menu. To follow social distancing guidelines, Dru is planning on having a unit hot dog roast one night during each session and picnic lunches with a mix of ham, turkey, or salami and cheese sandwiches and a variety of chips.
Even though we aren’t currently able to serve our campers and friends, we are determined to continue bettering Camp Ondessonk. In the words of Dr. Jill Murray, “The comeback is always stronger than the setback.” We’ve got this.
