Walking with God Retreat 2019
On the weekend of October 4th – 6th, 2019, Camp Ondessonk hosted the Walking with God Retreat, which focuses on connecting adult participants to God through nature and scripture. This year, 10 individuals, ranging in age from 24 – 70, joined us for the retreat. Retreatants spent time hiking through the Ondessonk wilderness and stopping at key locations to hear readings from the Bible, Pope Francis’s “Encyclical Laudato Si”, Thomas Berry’s “The Dream of the Earth”, Teilhard de Chardin’s “The Divine Milieu”, Max Ehrmann’s “Desiderata”, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Following each reading, there was time to share thoughts about each piece, while exploring God’s creation and natural mysteries. As the day came to an end on top of Hogg’s Bluff, participants were given a chance for silent reflection.
The rest of the weekend included Mass on Saturday, after which participants had the opportunity to reflect under the stars or be still with Jesus in Adoration. The retreat ended with everyone sharing a meal together and discussing what they discovered over the weekend, along with how they wish to apply the lessons they learned to their outside lives.
We are looking forward to next year’s Walking with God Retreat on November 6th – 8th, 2020!
