Mark Your Calendar for GivingTuesday!
On December 1, 2020, we will join thousands of other nonprofit organizations around the world in celebrating GivingTuesday. This is the day set aside each year that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. GivingTuesday kicks off the giving season by inspiring people to give back in numerous ways.
We are participating is this year’s GivingTuesday to help Keep the Gate Open. It is no secret COVID-19 has greatly impacted summer camps across the country, and Camp Ondessonk isn’t an exception. The cancellation of summer camp 2020 was devastating and resulted in a loss of two-thirds of our annual income. Though Camp has received great support from our community, we are still in a difficult financial position. This year, we received a GivingTuesday challenge gift of $10,000, meaning if we raise $10,000 on GivingTuesday, a generous donor will match it with $10,000.
“Our Keep the Gate Open campaign is a plea to the communities Camp Ondessonk serves to do just that – to help us continue to operate allowing future generations to experience the special Ondessonk spirit,” says Dan King. “We are asking those communities to come together to help us reach our goal of raising a total of $20,000 this GivingTuesday.”
GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. This generosity is demonstrated in many ways on this special day. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for causes around the world and gets 14.2 billion impressions on social media from those speaking up for the causes that matter to them.
