Girls Week Establishes an Environment for Growth
Once each summer at Camp Ondessonk, female campers fill the units to take part in Girls Week. During Girls Week, campers experience the same activities as Coed sessions, but are able to grow in an environment built for them to grow around other young women.
During this all-girls-session, campers can choose from any of the units provided by Camp Ondessonk to spend their week in. Programs offered for only female campers are Traditional Camp, Mini Camp, and Mini Camp Explorers.
Unit Leader Clare Anders spoke on her experience as a Girls Week camper before transitioning to a staff member: “During Girls week, it feels a lot more unified and together. Girls can just be themselves here and care about having fun and a good time. It’s special in that all of the campers get the same experience.”
“Camp gave me the confidence as a camper; a big part of that was the fact that it was Girls Week. Being surrounded by all girls just makes it more special to me. I felt more connected and at home,” Anders stated.
Even with the Summer of 2021 looking different in many different ways, campers still flocked to camp for Girls week. This week has since been empowering these young women to grow in confidence and have fun, all while providing a more comfortable environment with other young ladies to make many female campers feel at home at Camp.
Programming remains similar to Traditional Coed weeks, but allows for a different atmosphere than what they may experience during a Coed week. Camp Ondessonk provides these campers an environment for growth and a platform to foster friendships that can last a lifetime.
