Fall Outdoor Education 2019 Recap
Fall Outdoor Education 2019 – Another fall filled with 18 school groups, 7 Road Scholar programs, multiple specialty weekends, and more, has come to an end at Camp Ondessonk. The 2019 fall Outdoor Education staff was filled with excitement throughout every program they were able to work. We were delighted to welcome back returning Outdoor Education staff members Michael Steele and Kailey LaClare. New to the team this fall are Grace Kessels, Oliver Passalacqua, and Caleb Parker. We were also fortunate to have the addition of Katie Turner, who completed field hours at Camp Ondessonk for her degree from Southern Illinois University. Each staff member brings with them a variety of skills to help continue “teaching what matters most” at Camp Ondessonk.
The Outdoor Education Staff started the season by jumping right into a two-week long training. During this time the staff learned the ins and outs of working at Camp Ondessonk, and some tricks of the trade from seasoned educators. The staff, both new and returning, spent time hiking Ondessonk Trails, swinging through the air on the High Challenge Course, and learning the logistics of Camp, all while discussing curriculum and experiential education learning theories to apply while working with a school or group. As training concluded, Camp Ondessonk was blessed to be able to continue its year-round mission of inspiring growth through nature to thousands of kids from across the region.
We hope to see you in 2020 for any of our amazing programs!
