Camp Ondessonk’s First Belleville Diocesan Youth Camp 2019
From March 16th – 17th, Camp Ondessonk was excited to co-host the first Belleville Diocesan Youth Camp 2019 with the Department of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry. Serving 85 participants from 14 different parishes in the Diocese of Belleville, the event brought together high school youth to participate in a variety of sessions facilitated by Ondessonk Staff, Youth Ministers, and Youth Leaders. Sessions allowed participants to grow in faith and fellowship throughout the weekend.
For those who were able to join us on Saturday night, a wonderful campfire reflection was led by Deacon Tom Powers. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a participant-made foil burger dinner in the Grotto – a Camp Ondessonk tradition.
On Sunday, sessions resumed and topics like The Saints, Prayer Life, and being Children of God were discussed, along with teambuilding activities and scavenger hunts. The event ended with a beautiful Mass led by Father Steven Beatty in the Ondessonk Chapel. To help participants prepare for Mass, they were invited to have their confessions heard, write a letter to themselves, and participate in a hand washing ritual in LeCouer.
Throughout the weekend, participants were able to take advantage of the splendor of Camp Ondessonk to reflect and grow in their faith. Each youth was able to reflect on the common theme of being “Chosen” by God and what that meant to them as individuals and the Church.
Camp Ondessonk and the Department of Faith Formation look forward to taking what we learned from our first year and growing the Belleville Diocese Weekend Youth Camp next year on March 20th-22nd, 2020!
