When it comes to creating a new challenging mountain bike race, look no further than Jon Greenstreet and his team at the Bike Surgeon.  Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 10:00 AM, the Bike Surgeon presented: Groundhogs Soul Crusher Gravel Circuit Challenge at Camp Ondessonk in Ozark, IL.  Over 70 participants geared up for this all-new challenge, the course repeated over and over for 100 kilometers of gravel track. Jon Greenstreet stated, “This was the most challenging winter event ever for the Cannonball Four Seasons 2021 Race Series; the 2.6-mile course had over 250’ of elevation gain per lap and 62 miles and 6000’ within the 24 laps professionally scored with chip timing.”

Participants could either race by themselves or with a teammate.  Guests practiced social distancing and wore their masks responsibly, all while cheering on their favorite racers as they sped by on the gravel track.  The event ended with a podium ceremony recognizing the top three overall females and males for each age group (up to 15) (16-19)(20-29)(30-39)(40-49)(50-59)(60+), top three overall male and female, and top three teams male, female and co-ed.

The Bike Surgeon team has produced many events at Camp Ondessonk, including the Southern Illinois Fat Tire Festival.  Guest enjoy miles and miles of great riding through the beautiful Shawnee National Forest, the best food in all of Ozark, IL, a plethora of free beverages, and mountains of schwag and prizes. The event began a few years back and features live music, a climbing wall, a vendor expo, bike demos, trail runs, hikes, zip lines, and the rustic Camp O treehouse cabins.

Jon Greenstreet is an incredible community partner and continues to share his expertise every Summer with Camp Ondessonk campers through the Mountain Biking Adventure program.  Campers ages 12-16 begin on-site at Camp, learning riding techniques, bike repair, and practicing on Ondessonk’s extensive trail system. The teen adventure program concludes with an off-site ride on some of the best Mountain Biking trails the Shawnee National Forest region offers.
