2013 Golf Benefit Raises $29,500 for Camp Ondessonk Scholarship Fund
Hosted by Korte & Luitjohan Contractors Inc. and spearheaded by former Camp Ondessonk board member Pete Korte, this year’s net proceeds —- totaling more than $29,500—went to the Camp Ondessonk Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance to families in need, and to camping programs for the 2,700 children who attend camp every summer.
As host of the annual tournament for 18 years, Pete Korte, assisted by Cheetah Horstmann, has raised more than $460,000 for the Campership Fund. In 2013, 138 children received full or partial Scholarship assistance in 2013, in part from the proceeds of the 2012 Golf Benefit.
The “Keep It In The Boat” contest provided serious competition as golfers tried to chip a ball into a boat anchored in the middle of a pond. Unbelievably, four golfers managed to keep their golf balls in the boat, winning $50 each – and they all donated their winnings back to the Scholarship Fund.
As always, the individual golfers and their teams were very generous, donating more than $3,200 in flight and contest prizes back to the Scholarship Fund. Those businesses included Kalmer Lumber, Prindable Insurance Co., the Trenton Knights of Columbus, Pittsburg Pipe, the Highland Optimists, Schimpf Construction.
A barbeque lunch was served after the golfing. Brats were donated by Trenton Processing and grilled by Shakey Dave’s BBQ.
Four local businesses served as tournament sponsors, including Columbia Quarry Company, Kehrer Brothers Construction, Prindable Insurance Agency, and Rehkemper & Inc.
Many local businesses also contributed food and prizes to the tournament, including: Trenton Processing, St. Jacob WinWater Works, Excel Bottling Co., Preformance FoodGroup, and Silkworm Inc. of Murphysboro, Ill.
